Description
Splendid inkwell worked with lost wax casting, with a bust of Hippocrates in the center. The valuable manufacture of this inkwell is dedicated to the surgeon * Alessandro Riberi, appointed by King Carlo Felice as Major Surgeon of the 4th Company of the King’s Body Guards.

Alessandro Riberi was born on 24 April 1794 in Stroppo (Italy). He graduated in Surgery at the University of Turin in 1815 and in Medicine at the University of Genoa in 1817, in 1820 he became Assistant in the Operative Clinic of the Ospedale Maggiore di San Giovanni Battista and already in 1822 he was appointed Assistant Surgeon and Anatomical Engraver of the same hospital.
In the same year he was appointed by King Carlo Felice as Major Surgeon of the 4th Company of the King’s Body Guards.
Substitute Professor of Surgery at the University in 1825 and, the following year, Professor of Operative Surgery and Obstetrics, he founded the Laboratory of Anatomy and Surgery (still existing and named after him) for scientific research and for the training of students.
